Staffed by 18 employees and supported by over 300 volunteers, Micah’s Place provides:

Emergency Shelter: Temporary emergency, confidential shelter to domestic and sexual violence victims and their dependents. The facility is staffed 24-hours-per- day, 7 days a week by Micah’s Place staff and trained volunteers.

24-Hour Hotline: Our hotline provides counseling, information and referrals by telephone, available 24 hours a day.

Youth Program
:
Our Youth Program Manager provides children in the shelter with child assessments, case management, assists them with daily activities and provides the child and/or parent with appropriate referrals.

Child Assessments:
Completed by the Micah’s Place Youth Program Manager on all children under the age of 18 entering the shelter, assessments evaluate the basic needs children served by the program, and the referral of children to services when appropriate. This service also includes screening for child abuse, neglect and risk.

Community Education
: Trained staff and volunteers present community education to the public.

Professional Training:
Trained staff provides professional training to law enforcement, judicial agencies, mental health professionals and other professionals and paraprofessionals throughout the community.

Counseling:
Staff provides information on the dynamics of domestic violence and engages in supportive activities. Counseling is provided by telephone and in person.

Dating Violence Education and Prevention Program:
This program educates young people about the dangers of dating violence and provides resources and referrals to help.

Outreach Services: Micah’s Place maintains outreach offices in Fernandina Beach, Yulee, and Callahan, Florida
.

Service Management:
Service Management is provided by Micah’s Place staff and provides each participant a needs assessment, the development of a service and safety plan, and the coordination of appropriate services and follow-up.

Support Groups:
Support groups are offered in shelter and on an outreach basis.

Legal Advocacy:
Advocates provide legal advocacy.

Safety Planning:
Safety Plans are developed with shelter residents, outreach clients and hotline callers. Safety Plans include a lethality assessment, documentation of abuser’s patterns, and an escape plan.

Information and Referral: Micah’s Place staff and volunteers provide information about and referrals to services and resources to meet individual needs. These services are provided face-to-face or over the phone.

Transportation:
Travel for residents to or from the shelter, to community providers, or to conduct any business necessary, is provided.

Cell Phone Distribution:
Used cell phones are distributed to victims to be used in case of emergency.
All of Micah's Place services are provided free of charge. (for drop off locations, see "community supporters" under the menu item "News.")

Purple Dove Resale Center: sales of gently used furniture, household items and ladies apparel help sustain Micah's Place services to victims of domestic violence.  1002 South 14th St., Fernandina Beach, FL  32034.  M-F 10am - 5:30pm and Sat 10am - 5pm.  Pickups are once a week.
