Micah's Place, is bringing the message of hope, help and healing to our community by hosting "Take a Walk Together" an event remembering and celebrating those whose lives have been touched by domestic violence.
Two events will be held this year, one in Fernandina Beach, one in Callahan. Each event will feature a display of the "Clothesline Project". The Clothesline Project is a program started on Cape Cod, MA, in 1990 to address the issue of violence against women. It is a vehicle for women affected by violence to express their emotions by decorating a shirt. They then hang the shirt on a clothesline to be viewed by others as testimony to the problem of violence against women.
The events will end in a candlelight vigil, with guest speakers paying tribute to survivors of domestic violence.
The Fernandina event will be held on September 30, 2005, at 6:00 P.M. Meet us at 5:45 p.m. at Atlantic Coast Federal.
The Callahan event will be held on October 28, 2005, time TBA. |
