ABOUT US

Nassau County is made up of suburban and rural communities. Victims of domestic violence in Florida's rural communities are among the most isolated and endangered in our state and they face unique barriers due to their geographic isolation.

Though the State of Florida has a population of approximately 14 million people, the 41 statewide domestic violence centers serve primarily urban areas. As a result, victims in rural areas often must travel more than 100 miles to reach shelter, advocacy and counseling services.

WHAT IS MICAH'S PLACE?

Micah's Place, Inc. is a Certified Domestic Violence Center serving the residents of Nassau County, Florida. Micah's Place offers safe emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence. Micah's Place also offers outreach programs, including legal advocacy, and community education and awareness programs.

If you are currently experiencing emotional, physical, psychological, economical, verbal, or any other kind of abuse, we can help you. If you are in a controlling relationship, please let us help.

History of the Organization:

Micah's Place began in 1999, with a group of concerned citizens who knew that survivors of domestic violence needed a safe place to go. In June of 2003, Micah's Place began offering outreach services, counseling, information and referrals via a 24-hour toll-free hotline. In December of 2003 the organization opened a 16-bed emergency shelter for survivors of domestic violence.

In 2005, Micah's Place created a Rural Outreach program, designed and implemented a Dating Violence Education and Prevention Program, conducted a Corporate Education Summit, developed an internship program, earned the distinction of becoming Florida's 41st Certified Domestic Violence Center, and maintained a volunteer base of almost 300 people.

Organizational Structure:

Micah's Place currently has 14 well-trained employees, and a base of nearly 300 dedicated volunteers.

The organization is governed by a Board of Directors that is made up of local community citizens who volunteer their time to help oversee the fiscal health, community support, and general well-being of the agency.

Our Mission

The Mission of Micah's Place is "Crisis to confidence... more than a shelter." Our purpose is "to provide intervention and prevention programs to assist the victims of domestic violence and to educate the community regarding domestic violence."
