Domestic violence almost always involves various forms of control - physical, sexual, psychological, economic, etc. Domestic violence is not isolated to people who are married; it occurs with dating adolescents, same sex couples and adults living together The defining characteristic is that they share an intimate relationship.
If you are currently experiencing emotional, physical, psychological, economical, verbal, or any other kind of abuse, we can help you. If you are in a controlling relationship, we can help you. Call 800-500-1119 or 904-225-9979.

In the late 1970s, singer-songwriter Susan Marie Gallion left an abusive relationship in Wisconsin and moved to Atlanta, Georgia. Soon afterwards she wrote a song about that experience: The Woman In Me describes a young woman who acknowledges her vulnerability and loss of innocence, while finding her inner strength to rise above her difficulties.
Country music star Crystal Gayle recorded The Woman In Me in 1980 and it became a number one hit, garnering a Grammy nomination!
Upon moving to Amelia Island, Florida, in 2001, Susan learned about Micah's Place Domestic Violence Center and the vital services they offer to women and children in Nassau County. In 2010, she recorded her own contemporary version of The Woman In Me, in Nashville, with some of the nation’s top studio musicians. Now Susan has turned her song into a means of raising awareness and donations. The single can be downloaded on Amazon and iTunes. With each download of The Woman In Me, proceeds will be set aside for Micah's Place, a nonprofit organization.
In addition to her online music campaign, Susan has released a special limited-edition CD of six original songs, including The Woman In Me. The CD, entitled Saltwater, Light and Magnetism, can be purchased at locations in the Amelia Island area or via Susan’s website: OceanbirdMusic.com.
